At Milestones Child Development Center, we emphasize the development of the total child. We encourage the process of learning and discovery rather than the product. Each child’s physical needs and safety are given primary attention. Our health and nutritional programs stress the physical well-being of the child and are of the highest quality. Social needs, including getting along with peers, relationships with caring adults and adjustments to being away from parents, are essential to our program. We value each child and treat them with love, respect and courtesy. Trust, support, encouragement and success help minimize fear of failure and maximize a positive self-image.
Our approach to learning is developmental. We believe that “play is a child’s work” and that through play, children acquire the foundations for reading, writing, and logical thinking. Learning through play is the preparation children need before they can understand how to use abstract symbols such as letters and numbers.
Before children can understand the concept of “soft and hard” they need to experience “soft and hard” by working with play dough or building blocks. Before they can hold a pencil or control it to make a letter on paper, they need to develop their fine motor skills through cutting, pasting, pouring, stringing beads, kneading dough and drawing. Likewise, to understand 1+2=3 a child needs to first have concrete experience counting objects, sorting them into piles, adding and removing some. This is the way they acquire the foundation for logical thinking.
Our program places a strong emphasis on language. The staff will engage children in communication and problem solving skills as they supervise, question, clarify, and encourage. Listening, speaking, writing is enjoyed by staff and children.
We emphasize the creative process in arts, movements in thought. Creativity grows from the ability to try new combinations and ways of doing and thinking. Children are encouraged to make choices, suggestions and solve problems. Staff will act as facilitators, always respecting and encouraging spontaneity and individuality.
Our goal is to provide a safe and intellectually stimulating program where children are encouraged to reach the milestones that provide a foundation for academic excellence!
